After you do some,they will be wearing protector armor and follow you around,asking you to take them to your ship. You have to do the quests inside villages. I'm thinking maybe I kind of clicked my way through it and ignored their request. Follow up question, when they do ask to join my crew is it fairly obvious? Keep trying, I am quite lucky to have a human crew on board after lots of attempts from human outposts, which is harder to generate side missions. Went to a new planet and did about 4 for these monkeys and 3 offered to join me. I've done a good amount of town quests for locals and from tenants but they have yet to ask to join my crew. Unfortunately I'm not equipped enough to do the Dreadwing quest. In the wiki it says I can get crew members through doing quests or from the Beak Easy.
